Mieke is a strikingly strong-featured South African runway powerhouse who has been in the industry since the age of fifteen. Her passion and dedication propelled her swiftly into success after she was scouted by an agent at a production of Phantom of the Opera in Cape Town that she was attending with her mother. At first, her family was hesitant to let her pursue a career in fashion but were quickly convinced when they saw her potential. Her first job was for a Glamour Magazine spread in Cape Town, which was followed by a cover appearance for Elle Magazine when Mieke was 17. She was booked for an international campaign with United Colors Of Benetton as well as a shoot for Kohl's in the US, and soon, she was signing with agencies all over Europe. Most recently, she has enjoyed the creative collaboration of New York Fashion Week and looks forward to engaging more personally with her profession. Mieke, in addition to her success as a model, has a degree in business management and another in special needs education. She has a big heart and a great inclination to help others, and volunteers for Sunday Love, a foundation that works to help the homeless and drug dependent in Kensington, Philadelphia. When she is not working, Mieke enjoys long walks, attending pilates, visiting with her friends in the myriad of cities on her travel log, and is always reading or journaling.
